Decorating a cake takes practice -- but it can be done simply but still be elegant.
There is a show on public television it is called Bake, Decorate, Celebrate -- They give some great ideas for cake decorating -- Their website has decorating techniques (with pictures) as well as tiered construction information also with pictures for wedding cakes and it also has icing recipes. The address is: http://www.bakedecoratecelebrate.com/
Another site that is very useful for cake decorating is the Wilton site -- they also have lots of decorating information. The address is: http://www.wilton.com/decorating/basic/i鈥?/a>
Good luck on your cake -- enjoy!!
Its hard and takes a lot of practice...so I'd get some friends together and tell them they'll be eating cake courtesy of you and your experiments for the next few weeks :) Practice makes perfect.
Be sure the cake is fully cooled (even freeze it for a few hours) before you frost it. If you have a turntable, be sure you spin it evenly and steadily as you frost and decorate or you'll be uneven. Good luck.
