Well, I consider my grandma the best cook and think her chocolate cake is her best ever recipe so I guess this is my favorite cake recipe. It is so gooey and fudgy!!
Grandma's Chocolate Cake
鈥⒙?cup softened margarine
鈥⒙?cup oil
鈥? cups sugar
鈥? cups flour
鈥? t. baking soda
鈥⒙?cup buttermilk
鈥? t. vanilla
鈥? eggs
鈥? cup cold water
鈥? heaping T. cocoa
1.Combine sugar, margarine, eggs and oil until mixed. Add remaining ingredients and beat until smooth.
2.Grease and cocoa a 13x9 inch cake pan and pour batter into pan. Bake at 375 for about 30 minutes.
3.A few minutes before the cake is done, prepare the frosting so that it is just done when the cake comes out of the oven (frosting recipe follows). Poke many holes in hot cake with a fork and slowly spoon frosting over cake, smoothing as you go so the frosting sinks into the fork holes and giving it time between pouring to sink into the holes.
Grandma鈥檚 Chocolate Frosting:
鈥⒙?cup margarine
鈥? T. milk (NOT buttermilk)
鈥? t. vanilla
鈥? T. cocoa
鈥? cups powdered sugar
1.Mix together all ingredients in a 2 quart saucepan and bring to a boil over medium (med-low) flame. Boil for 30-45 seconds only and pour hot frosting over hot cake as directed above.Who has the best cake recipes?
I have found the best cake receipes in a book called ';The Cake MIx Doctor'; by Anne Byrn. My husband works at gourmet restaurants, and even he raves about these cakes. You start with cake mixes and add other ingredients so the cake comes out tasting like a made from scratch wonder. Byrn also includes made from scratch frostings and icings which are EASY and a great touch.
Here's one of my favorites:
1 pkg. dark chocolate fudge cake mix
1 pkg 3.9 oz chocolate instant pudding mix
4 eggs
1 C. sour cream
1/2 C. water
1/2 C. vegetable oil
1 1/2 C. semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350, oil and flour a bundt pan. Place cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, sour cream, water and oil in a large mixing bowl and blend on low speed 1 minute. Scrape down sides of bowl and increase mixer speed to medium for 2-3 minutes. Fold in the chocolate chips, and pour the batter in the prepared pan. Bake 45-50 minutes (cake should spring back when pressed lightly with finger, should be pulling away from side of pan.)
This one is so good you can do without frosting, but chocolate glaze won't hurt...
2T. butter
2 T. cocoa powder
1/4 C. heavy cream
1 C. powdered sugar
1 t. vanilla
Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add the cocoa and cream and stir until thickens (2 minutes) Do not boil. Remove from heat and stir in sugar and vanilla until smooth. Spoon over cooled cake.Who has the best cake recipes?
Nigella Lawson, and sexy to boot!
Cook's Illustrated has fantastic cake recipes. I don't even care much for cake and they are moist, delicious, and rich in flavor. Go get one of their cookbooks from the public library. Baking illustrated is their big baking cook book but The Yellow Farm House Cook Book is good and The Best Recipe is also excellent. You could go online but they charge $20-$25 dollars for access to their recipes for a year though I think for $4 you can have access for a month! It is the best money I've ever spent!

12 large egg whites (or 1 7/8 cups)
1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp sifted cocoa
Icing Ingredients
3 tbsp soft butter
3 cups unsifted icing sugar
6 tbsp 10% cream
pinch of salt
15 drops yellow food coloring
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
Method for the Marbled Angel Cake Recipe
Sift the flour and icing sugar together at least twice.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites, cream of tartar, salt, almond extract and vanilla until foamy. As you beat, sprinkle the granulated sugar over top, two tablespoons at a time. Mix for approximately twenty minutes, until the batter is very stiff.
Remove the beaters. Carefully sift the flour/sugar mixture over, and fold in. Just fold until everything is incorporated. Be careful not to over mix at this time, as you want to retain the airy lightness of the batter.
Put half of this mixture in a separate bowl and carefully fold in the sifted cocoa.
Spoon great gobs of batter into an ungreased tube pan with a removable center. (ie the Cuisinart Chef's Classic Nonstick 9-Inch Tube Cake Pan)
Alternate between white and chocolate layers to get the marbled angel food cake recipe effect. When batter is all in pan, take a knife and swish through to the bottom a few time. This removes bubbles of air.
Bake at 350 掳 for 55 minutes, approximately. The cake is done if, when touched, the dent you form does not remain.
Turn upside down (ie hang over a wine bottle) for one hour. Next, get a long, slender knife and loosen along sides and along tube, if necessary. Lift out. Loosen the bottom with a knife if necessary. Invert on a serving plate. Cool thoroughly and ice.
Method for Icing the Marbled Angel Cake Recipe
Beat all icing ingredients together until smooth, and spread over the cake. Melt the chocolate in the microwave or in a double boiler (the Fagor Stainless-Steel 2-Quart Double Boiler with Steamer Insert is particularly good for melting chocolate). Drizzle the chocolate over the top. Allow some to drip down the sides. Cool the cake, but do not refrigerate this marbled angel food cake recipe.
Angel Food Cake
Yield: 10 to 12 servings
1 3/4 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cake flour, sifted
12 egg whites (the closer to room temperature the better)
1/3 cup warm water
1 teaspoon orange extract, or extract of your choice
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a food processor spin sugar about 2 minutes until it is superfine. Sift half of the sugar with the salt the cake flour, setting the remaining sugar aside.
In a large bowl, use a balloon whisk to thoroughly combine egg whites, water, orange extract, and cream of tartar. After 2 minutes, switch to a hand mixer.
Slowly sift the reserved sugar, beating continuously at medium speed. Once you have achieved medium peaks, sift enough of the flour mixture in to dust the top of the foam. Using a spatula fold in gently. Continue until all of the flour mixture is incorporated.
Carefully spoon mixture into an ungreased tube pan. Bake for 35 minutes before checking for doneness with a wooden skewer. (When inserted halfway between the inner and outer wall, the skewer should come out dry).
Cool upside down on cooling rack for at least an hour before removing from pan.
Cook's Note: Since they're easier to separate use the freshest eggs you can get.

Method
1.Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Be sure that your 10 inch tube pan is clean and dry. Any amount of oil or residue could deflate the egg whites. Sift together the flour, and 3/4 cup of the sugar, set aside.
2.In a large bowl, whip the egg whites along with the vanilla, cream of tartar and salt, to medium stiff peaks. Gradually add the remaining sugar while continuing to whip to stiff peaks. Tho you may not be able to find the pans in the 20 numbers,
you can bake two 1/4 sheet cakes, make a template by drawing the numbers on a paper bag and then cutting them out. Place them on top of the cakes. Pin them in place with toothpicks and cut around the paper. Brush the cakes well with a pastry brush to remove excess crumbs and frost as you would normally.
Hope this helps!!URGENT: I need a cake recipes for my mom and dad's 20th wedding anniversary?
Are you looking for basic cake recipes, or a specialty ';20'; shaped pan, or both?
I don't think you'll find a pan that will do this for you. You may find individual number shaped pans, but I'll bet it would be hard to track them down, especially if you need them in a hurry. Ebay might be a place to try.
My suggestion would be to use a basic chocolate or yellow cake (you'll find tons online or in cookbooks) or use cake mixes to bake 2 sheet cakes, and cut one cake into the number 2 shape and the other into a 0. You could print out templates for yourself or place a piece of parchment paper over each cake and draw the numbers on the paper, then use a toothpick to poke holes through the paper and into the cake, to transfer the pattern onto the cake. Then remove the parchment paper and cut, following your toothpick holes as guides.
Depending on how many you need to serve, you will have to decide how big the sheet cakes need to be. Much of it will be cut away as scraps.
Here's an easier idea! Why not make a bunch of cupcakes, and arrange them on a big cake board (or covered piece of plywood) into the number 20!? Much easier, less waste, and easy to serve, too! Just jazz them up with sprinkles and pretty frosting, and add copies of photos of your parents over the years to the cake board background/display.
Happy Baking!

Check out Wilton cake supplies. They are sold in Joanne fabrics, or Michaels crafts. They also are online. You could bake a sheet cake, cut out the cake with a template, set it onto a sheet cake and frost that. (save the scraps for pudding cake or something) The 1-2-3-4 cake that is on the Softasilk flour box is excellent. Wouldn't it be easier to make the 20 out of icing rosettes using icing tips?

Why do dark chocolate cake recipes ask to add coffee? willcake taste like coffee or mocha? can i use nescaffe?
is it liquid that i should use? also, we dont get good dark chocolate powder here, so i melt dark cooking chocolate to make dark cake. can i add the same to the whipping cream to ice the cake? will it melt within a few hours in hot waether? Why do dark chocolate cake recipes ask to add coffee? willcake taste like coffee or mocha? can i use nescaffe?
The recipes probably ask for Coffee because the chocolate isn't very sweet so its to add flavor.
And yes the cake does get a slight Coffee taste but its very slight and rather good.
Yes you can use Nescafe.
You probably should not add chocolate to your whipping cream because it will not Whip very well, but you can make an icing out of confectioners sugar (here is a link to a whole bunch - http://www.martinsburg.com/wv.recipes/frost.html)
If you are talking about the cake - no it will not melt.
If you are talking about the icing - it might break down or melt if it was really hot and was exposed to the heat for a long time, but if you protect from the heat enough it shouldn't.
I hope I helped,

What happens when you add more eggs to a standard cake recipes'?
This really depends on HOW you add the extra eggs.
If you add only whites and beat them first the cake will be taller and have a lighter crumb, like angel food cake.
If you add only yolks, the the color will deepen and the cake will be more dense.
If you add whole eggs the overall change will generally be a more dense cake because most people won't separate to increase air volume in the batter. The caution is exceeding what the batter can hold as eggs. Too much egg and the cake becomes tough and eggy (how is that for a descriptor!)
but also seems to look a bit stringy.
I have chickens and sometimes am faced with wanting to use
up one more egg vs discarding the egg since I know I won't be baking for a while. I only give away eggs that are less than 48 hours old. I use them for my own baking up to 3 weeks old. Most often I don't have 3 week old eggs in my refrigerator though!
If I had a cake recipe that required 2 eggs I would add a third and not worry if the cake were a typical yellow cake. If my cake recipe required 3 eggs I would probably not add the 4th unless the eggs were smaller than usual.
If the cake were higher in fat (like a flourless chocolate cake) I also would not add the extra egg.
These comments are in relation to a single 9 x 13 cake pan type cake or single boxed cake mix. I would think it is obvious that making 5 full sheet pans of cake would not have the same impact by an single additional egg, vs the 1/4 sheet that is typical of the home baker. What happens when you add more eggs to a standard cake recipes'?
The mass will turn too moisty and like bubble gum..What happens when you add more eggs to a standard cake recipes'?
It may be a little more moist, but if you cook it well then the whites will cook too. If they were whipped, it might be a lighter cake, with more bubbles. If it was only 1 or 2 extra, i doubt you will notice any difference to be honest.
you may get a denser cake from the extra fat but it'll still be good.

Does anyone have any low-fat cake recipes?
I have a sweet-tooth but I don't want to eat anything with a lot of fat in it...any ideas?Does anyone have any low-fat cake recipes?
This page lists hundreds of low-fat cake recipes (you have to click on each link to get the recipe, and to get to the next part of the list):
http://www.recipezaar.com/r/163/173Does anyone have any low-fat cake recipes?
Most cake recipes from mix or scratch call for oil but you can eliminate the oil for a reduced or more-reduced fat mix or recipe.
It is just a straight substitution.
You can used mashed bananas, chocolate syrup, applesauce, prepared non-fat instant pudding with flavor to match your cake, reduced fat melted peanut butter...whatever complements the taste of the cake you are baking. Choc cake with choc syrup is very decadent.
You can skip the frosting on a cake which calls for butter by using powdered sugar, or a fruit spread, or a glaze (runnier than frosting, less butter), or by frosting with non-fat coolwhip.
For other baked goods, try quick breads with some fruit in it. May be just as much sugar and fat but there is that fruit to make it a little healthier!
Pureed fruit mixed in pancake batter gives sweetness, then top with more fruit puree instead of syrup. Low fat if you use a pancake mix like Jiffy (add skim milk) OR if you use a complete pancake mix (add water) and cook on a non-stick griddle.
Try mixing chocolate with fruit. A little melted choc chips to dip fresh strawberries or orange slices.
You can make ';instant'; cheesecake! Try mixing fat free cream cheese with anything...try a fruit puree and add desired amount of sweetner, or you can add cocoa powder, add to a crust you made of low fat graham crackers, butter substitute, and sweetner. This is a no bake recipe. Just chill until set and serve.
There are fat free alternatives to candy. Hard candy such as lifesavers and cremesavers don't have any fat.
Chocolate milk is fat free. Hershey's syrup is fat free, mix with skim milk.
And then there is the more disciplined approach. Make your dessert the regular way, make it small or serve at a party, and have a tiny tiny portion.

I know that on the back of the cake mix boxes they have an ';alternate'; recipe for lower fat/ lower cholesterol versions...

Fannie Farmer cookbook has a recipe for ';War Cake'; that I've made for heart patients and it's yummy.

a carrot cake, is good and easy, get 4 , 5, carrot and just get a knight and just scrash it to like little pices and put egg in a bowl and flavour and brown sugar, baking soda and bake it
Use a cake mix. It would be the easiest and they taste homemade without all the hassle. Dunan Hines is my favorite brand of cake mix.

Hello,
Here is a link to a great recipe for a German White Chocolate cake. It is delicious. The web-site also has a lot of other great chocolate recipes. So, if your mum likes chocolate this may work for you!
Good Luck and I hope that I have been some help to you!
Well I don't know if you mean you want to make a cake from what is called ';scratch';.. in other words mixing up the flour, eggs, etc. OR if you are buying a pre-mixed mix from the grocery. But my favorite cake to make (and everyone enjoys) is what I call a chocolate/cherry cake. I buy a Devil's food cake mix, between the layers I add a can of cherry pie filling, then use the deep dark fudge icing. On top I place marachino cherries. Never fails.
Rich Chocolate Birthday Cake - from scratch
Put all this into a big saucepan/pot:
1 cup water
250 g butter
1.5 cup sugar
2 tablespoons of cocoa (1 more tablespoon if you like a darker cake)
1 teaspoon of bi-carb soda
Heat gently until it is all melted, the bring to the boil and let it froth up
(this is why it needs to be a big saucepan)
Leave to cool down.
Now add:
2 eggs
2 cups of Self Raising Flour (look for what to add to plain flour if you cannot get this)
I now mix this all up with a stick blender in the saucepan/pot
Put it in a 20cm round cake tin, and bake at 180c for about 50 minutes.
Test that it is cooked after 45 minutes with a cake tester, (this is a skewer placed into the middle of the cake and should
come out clean - if it is still gooey, put back in the oven for another 10 minutes)
When cooked, remove and wait for 15 minutes before taking it out of the tin and placing it on a cake cooler.
Wait until it is cool before icing it (another hour about)
Icing:
400g of PURE icing sugar (approx)
2 heaped tablespoons of cocoa
60g butter
1/4 cup of boiling water
Dash of vanilla essence (the real stuff, not imitation)
Extra Boiling water if needed - teaspoon at a time.
Sift the icing sugar and cocoa.
Make a well and place the butter and vanilla essence in, pour the 1/4 cup of boiling water onto it to melt the butter, at the
same time stirring it into the icing sugar mix. Keep adding very small amounts of water while mixing until you get a smooth and maleable consistencey.
If you add too much water and it goes too runny, add more sifted icing sugar to bring back the consistency.
Use a smooth knife to ice the cake.
Let the icing set (how long can you wait - about 1/2 an hour?)
Eat with lashings of tea or coffee while singing Happy Birthday
I have discovered a lovely recipe for a ';fridge'; cake which does not need any baking. The most difficult thing is waiting for the cake to chill for 3 hours!
Take: 600g cream cheese (like Philadelphia), 300 ml plain full cream yoghurt, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 sachet gelatine to set 500ml liquid, 250ml water, 75g (about 5-6 tablespoons) of sugar or the equivalent in a sweetener, a crust made of 150g crushed boudoir or granola biscuits or whatever you like mixed with 100g melted butter.
Optional: Fresh or canned fruit. Do not use fresh pineapple or kiwis because the gelatine will not set! When using canned fruit, you can use the syrup instead of water to mix the gelatine, but omit or adjust the amount of sugar
Press the crumbs and butter into the pie dish and chill while you mix the cheese filling.
Mix the gelatine according to the packet instructions using only 250 ml water or liquid, and set aside.
Mix the cream cheese, lemon juice, sugar and yoghurt.
Add the gelatine to the mixture.
If using any fruit, mix them in now.
Put the mixture into the pie dish and refrigerate for about 3 hours till set and firm.
Decorate with some fruit or chocolate hearts
Enjoy!
I made this with fresh strawberries, I used 750g, and it was absolute heaven!! Just the right thing for the springtime in the northern hemisphere!
If you want to make a coffee flavoured tart, take 2 sachets of cappuccino powder, omit the lemon juice, and add 100 g grated milk chocolate. Yummy.
This one is really good......but included a few more recipes.
Enjoy.......aren't you sweet to do this for your mother.

XDo you know any really tasty cake recipes? Want to bake a cake for my mum. Want it to be special!!!?

Its so easy, you buy the base add cream and fruit and voila done.Do you know any really tasty cake recipes? Want to bake a cake for my mum. Want it to be special!!!?
Hello,
Here is a link to a great recipe for a German White Chocolate cake.
Enjoy!

I don't have an answer for your question, but LOL, I thought fig preserves only existed in MY family! I have Tons of jars of the stuff and don't know what to do with it except to eat it on toast! Sorry I wasn't much help.
You can't get any easier then Tastefully Simple breads. They have an AWESOME beer bread that they are famous for but you don't HAVE to make it with beer. I've known people to use sparkling apple juice or white soda. Any carbonated drink will work. And it's so simple! Just add the beverage, mix and put it in the over for 45mins and your DONE! There's nothing like warm homemade bread and the smell that takes over the house and it's even better when it's this easy! Go to this website to check it out. (a friend of mine is a consultant. I am really sad abt ur mother condition I pray for her health.Hope u like these recipe %26amp; make ur mom day.
*Golden Layer Cake
2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup milk, divided
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 unbeaten eggs
Grease two 9-inch cake pans; line with waxed paper and grease paper lightly. Preheat oven to 350°. Sift dry ingredients together. Add shortening, 3/4 cup milk and vanilla and beat 2 minutes at high speed with electric mixer. Add 1/4 cup milk and the eggs; beat 2 minutes longer. Pour batter into prepared cake pans. Bake for 25 minutes, or until cake tests done. Cake will bounce back when lightly touched with finger. Cool cake 5 to 10 minutes in pan on wire racks, then remove cake from pans and cool completely.
*14 Layer Cake
-Cake:
1 Duncan Hines Yellow Cake Mix
1 Cup Water
1/2 cup Crisco Cooking Oil
4 Eggs
1 Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix (regular size)
-Chocolate Frosting
1/2 cup Buttermilk
1 1/2 stick Margarine
4 heaping tablespoons Cocoa
1 1/2 boxes of Ten X sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla %26amp; pinch of Salt
-Cake
Mix as usual the ingredients above for the cake. Grease and flour pans.
Put 1/2 cup of batter in each pan. Spread evenly over
bottom of pan. Bake at 325-350 degrees for 15 min. Watch closely.
Cool completely before spreading icing. (Each Cake Mix makes 7 layers) You may need to insert something down the center of the layers as you start getting some height built up to keep the cake layers from sliding so you end up with a pretty cake when finished.
-Chocolate Frosting
(1/2 cup of regular Milk and 1 tablespoon Vinegar can be mixed and substituted for Buttermilk)
While margarine melts stir in Cocoa, then add Milk and let start tobubble (lowest heat) Remove from heat and add one box sugar(sifted) Then add more Sugar until good spreading consistency.
Frost between each layer then frost sides and top.

ENJOY :-)Need some excellent cake recipes old fashion or new!!!!?
This is the best recipe for carrot cake, yet it's easy to make, once you get the carrots shredded. I believe that baby carrots, although truly a pain to shred, are the secret to this recipe. They are more tender than regular carrots, with a sweeter flavor (even though they are just well trimmed regular carrots!). Enjoy this cake.
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups shredded baby carrots
1 cup oil
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2-1/2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
8 oz. can crushed pineapple, drained
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Shred baby carrots (this takes some time, but is well worth it).
In large bowl, combine oil, sugar, vanilla, and eggs and beat well. Stir in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt and mix well.
Batter will be very stiff.
Add carrots, drained pineapple, and 1/2 cup walnuts and mix well (batter will start to soften and loosen). Pour into 13x9'; pan and spread evenly. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-55 minutes until dark golden brown and cake springs back when lightly touched in center. Cool on wire rack.
Fold 1/2 cup chopped walnuts into Cream Cheese Frosting and spread over cake. 16 servings
Make a yellow box cake mix . for the frosting mix a can of fruit cocktail ,1 small box of pudding mix , and 1 (8oz) tub of cool whip . take and spread a layer of frosting in btwn the layers and chill untill firm . it is called fruit cocktain cake . and for extra sweetness you can add a can of mandarin oranges into the cake mix and bake as per directions on the box of cake mix . it makes a really good cake . good luck .

16 servings
